Periodontitis - periodontal disease

What is periodontal disease?

Periodontosis is a disease of the dental tissue and bone that supports the teeth.

It is most often caused by improper and insufficient hygiene of the oral cavity. Some research has shown that 80% of the Slovenian population has one form of periodontal disease. It is one of the most common causes of tooth loss in adult patients. It is an insidious disease that is often overlooked by the patient. It is most often discovered by a dentist.

At the Skylab dental and diagnostic center, we have been detecting early signs of periodontitis for many years and performing initial periodontological therapy – scaling and root planing – with which we achieve excellent results in the treatment of periodontal disease.

The first signs of periodontitis are:

  • constant bleeding of dental tissue during tooth brushing,
  • swollen dental tissue of intense red color,
  • bad breath and taste in the mouth,
  • tooth sensitivity,
  • “traveling” teeth that tilt and change their position.

How does periodontosis – periodontal disease occur?

It is caused by dental plaque, which accumulates on the surface of the teeth and gums due to insufficient and improper hygiene. Plaque contains bacteria that irritate the gums and cause inflammation or gingivitis. Plaque that hardens on the tooth is called tartar. If gingivitis is not treated, the bacteria penetrate deeper and deeper. They break down and destroy the periodontal tissues and in this way separate the tooth from the gums. Thus, small spaces called dental pockets are formed between the tooth and the gum. These are signs of initial periodontitis. Pockets are an ideal breeding ground for bacteria, which continue to destroy tissues, causing looseness and the loss of one or more teeth. Then we talk about advanced periodontitis. Periodontal disease can be detected and prevented with regular dental check-ups, dental x-rays, correct tooth cleaning technique and professional teeth cleaning by a dentist.

CBCT/3D slikanje čeljusti

Aparat zajame več posameznih posnetkov (prerezov) določenega predela in jih združi v celoto.

RVG lokalni posnetek

Če želimo bolj natančno sliko določenega predela z veliko natančnih detajlov, naredim RVG lokalni posnetek s katerim zajamemo področje 1-2 zoba, posamzeno razpoko, plombo ali granulom.

Ortopan posnetek

Pri prvem pregledu pacienta v našem centru obvezno naredimo ortopantomagrski posnetek (ortopan). S tem posnetkom zajamemo področje obeh čeljusti in sosednjih tkiv in struktur. Zato je ortopan odličen za ugotovaljanje začetnega stanja pred načrtovanjem nadaljnega zdravljenja. Odličen je tudi za občasne kontrole zdravja ustne votline
